Construction at the quarry
Winewall has become a Cul-de-Sac for a few weeks because of strengthening work being carried out on the road leading to Wycoller. The road which leads across the now defunct quarry has suffered with the combined effects of increased heavy traffic, especially farm machinery, and a succession of very wet seasons, resulting in the road crumbling on either side and an increased danger of collapse. Consequently our village is a haven of peace and tranquillity at the moment, no white van man or screaming motorcycles to negotiate on Winewall Lane makes a really pleasant change.
Incidentally, this quarry historically is of interest as it was the site from which the stone to build Colne's magnificent townhall was excavated.
Here are a few photographs of the work being undertaken...

Altogether we have decided that what they really are doing up there is a reconstruction of the pyramids, the blocks of stone are plenty big enough... (small wonder the Council Tax keeps going up!)
